Directors and Senior Management Team

Sir John Baker CBE – Non-Executive Chairman

John Baker has had a career in both public and private sectors. He moved into the energy sector in 1979 becoming Corporate Managing Director of the UK Central Electricity Generating Board. He led the management of the UK electricity privatisation and restructuring programme. He was Chief Executive of National Power PLC from 1990 when the Company was established, and Chairman from 1 April 1995 to the end of 1997. From 1995-1998 he was also Chairman of the World Energy Council. He is currently Chairman or non-Executive Director of a number of companies as well as Chairman of a number of non- commercial organisations. John is responsible for strategy and planning, he is also Chairman of the Remuneration Committee.

Mike Proffitt FCA - Chief Executive Officer

A qualified Chartered Accountant since 1975, Mike joined the Wyndham Hotel Company as CFO in 1982 where he guided the expansion of the group from five to 14 hotels. Moving out on his own, in 1987 he became part owner and President of The Savoy Hotel Company. Mike’s experience managing corporate growth saw him in 1997 invited onto the board of the Manx Electricity Authority and was appointed CEO in July 2000.

Streamlining its operations, Mike instigated a cut of nearly 30 percent in electricity prices and initiated major capital works such as the successful commissioning of the longest AC subsea interconnector cable in the World (from Isle of Man to Blackpool) and the commissioning of a new Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) 'state of the art' power station together with a natural gas pipeline connecting to Scotland.

He is a Non Executive Director of BPC Limited and Carnegie Corporation, he is also a former Chairman of Barclays Private Clients International Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Barclays Group. With his management, energy and investment experience, Mike recognises the opportunities provided in the renewable energy sector and is well suited to exploit them.

Mike is responsible for the day-to-day operation and development of the Company.

Alan Burns – Non Executive Director

Alan is a founder director of REH, the inventor of the CETO technology and has won a number of international awards for his inventions. Alan has also been involved in the international oil and mining industry for over thirty years and Chaired and founded Hardman Resources which was quoted on Aim until its agreed takeover by Tullow Oil Plc. Alan was the Chairman and founder of the Australian listed company Carnegie Wave Energy Limited. He is also a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Roger Witcomb – Non Executive Director

Roger spent a significant amount of his career working in large energy and utility businesses including ten years at BP in various commercial and planning roles, followed by a further ten years at National Power plc, where his positions included Director of Planning and ultimately Group Finance Director until the group's demerger in 2000. Roger is also Chairman of the Audit Committee.

 

James Smith – Non Executive Director

James was appointed to the Board of REH as a nominee of Utilico Limited, the Company's largest shareholder with an interest in approximately 28.71% of the Company's issued share capital following the Placing announced on 31 July 2009 and the granting of the Loan which enabled REH to complete the acquisition of the developer of its 30MW Kobylany Wind Farm Project, Gamar GL. James is an investment manager at Utilico responsible for the investment policy of Utilico and Utilico Emerging Markets plc. He has been employed by Utilico for the last ten years. Prior to joining Utilico, James was an internal auditor for Fleming Investment Management. He qualified as a barrister in 1994 before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1997. James is a member of the Audit Committee.

Dr Jannie Retief - Development and Marketing Director (non-Board)

After receiving a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pretoria, Jannie won a Shell Scholarship which enabled him to study at Cranfield Institute of Technology in the UK where he received a M.Sc in Engineering. Jannie spent the earlier years of his career designing, constructing and commissioning distilleries and factories, after which he was mainly involved in company turnarounds and start-ups at CEO level. He returned to South Africa and completed a doctorate in 1984. Since 1998 he has lived and worked in the UK, Canada and USA. Jannie is currently an Executive member of the British Energy Association.

Ian Gribble – Finance Director (non-Board)

A mechanical engineer, Ian spent several years working as a component design and development enginer for Strix and Swagelok. He became a chartered accountant with BDO and performed audit on a diverse range of businesses such as airlines, offshore investment and mining companies. Prior to joining REH Ian was a financial controller of PokerStars; one of the largest online gaming businesses in the world.

 

Clive Callister – Asset Management & Technical Services Director (non-Board)

Clive is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with experience in the Electricity, Petrochemical and Pharmaceutical Industries. He has also spent time in the public sector of the Isle of Man Government Treasury as a Capital Projects Adviser and prior to joining REH as Director of Works for the Department of Transport.

As an Electricity Industry Generation Operations Manager Clive was involved in both development projects and commercial operations. Development projects included design, start-up and operational integration of a new CCGT power station to run alongside two diesel power stations, an undersea AC Interconnector, with commercial arbitraging between oil, gas and electricity markets.

Clive has considerable asset and project management experience; his previous roles have included advising Isle of Man Government Departments on capital project strategies, following several years in petrochemical/pharmaceutical maintenance and project management for ICI/AstraZeneca.
